We are here to help make it easy for you to enroll in college. Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions students have about our admissions, registration and financial aid:
Questions About Admission?
- Can I visit the campus to get more information about the programs offered at the Selland College of Applied Technology?
A: Yes! We would love to meet with you personally to get you started on a new career! You may call our office to make an appointment to meet with a counselor at 426-1431 in Boise or 562-2100 in Nampa.
- What do I do after I decide on the program I want to pursue?
A: Visit with our Student Services staff by phone or in person Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You can schedule an appointment at our Boise or Nampa campus locations Boise Campus, Technical Services Bldg, 1464 University Dr, Room 109 or Nampa Campus, 2407 Caldwell Blvd., Room 124
They will walk you through the admission process, beginning with the Basic Skills Assessment. Please plan on spending at least an hour with us.
- What’s a Basic Skills Assessment?
A:
The Basic Skills Assessment (BSA) is the evaluation tool the College of Applied Technology uses to determine current skill levels in English, Writing, Mathematics and in some cases Algebra. Before an applicant can be placed into one of our programs, minimum scores must be met or exceeded.
- Why do I need to take a basic skills assessment test?
I have not taken a test for years.
A: The BSA is an untimed, computerized evaluation tool used to determine where your skills are today. If your scores indicate the need for you to know more before you start a program we have free classes and other support options for you. We will help you get to the level you need to be to enroll in a program here.
- Am I too late to apply for admission?
A: In most cases, probably not. We accept applications from prospective students for most programs throughout the year. Wehave some programs that must adhere to strict deadlines due to the nature of the training and the selection process.
- What else do I need to do?
A: In addition to the Basic Skills Assessment, you will need to complete and submit a BSU Admissions Application with the application fee, and official copies of your high school (or GED) and college transcripts. You can click on our Admissions/Financial Aid link for more information. Once you have met all of the admission requirements, you will need to pay an enrollment fee of $50.00 to secure the next available space in your program until your registration date. Failure to register on your assigned date may result in the loss of your place in your program.
The enrollment fee also allows you to use the instructional support services – computer interactive and instructor directed learning activities- offered by our Applied Academics Division. This is an excellent resource to upgrade your skills or simply prepare yourself for the challenges of fast paced college life.
Questions About Registration?
- How do I register for classes?
A: You will receive a letter inviting you to a Selland College of Applied Technology Orientation and Registration session to be held on a specific date and time after you have been accepted in your program. It is very important that you attend on your scheduled registration date! You will be given College-relevant information on that date and you will leave with your official schedule.
As you progress through your studies, advising for future semesters will be done with your faculty advisor. Continuing students will be given an appointment time to register using Bronco Web after faculty advising is completed.
Boise State University also offers several informative and fun events during New Student Orientation. Please note that the University’s orientation does not replace your College of Applied Technology Orientation and Registration appointment. However, we highly recommend attending the University-wide sponsored events. As a College of Applied Technology student, you are a vital member of the University Community. Participation at these events is an excellent way to familiarize yourself with all of the benefits associated with being a part of Boise State University.
- I have technical classes from another college. Will they
transfer to my program?
A: We make every effort to accept relevant work completed at another accredited institution. Courses that may apply towards program requirements should be discussed during your session with our advising staff and with your program advisor.
- What if I need to change my schedule?
A: All College of Applied Technology programs have a structured schedule that has been predetermined for the convenience of our students and to ensure the steady progress of theory and skill mastery. However, there is some limited flexibility for the addition of deletion of classes. It is very important that you discuss any schedule alterations with your instructor or advisor before you initiate a change.
Schedule changes can be done on Bronco Web. You will find all deadlines listed in the University catalog and in the class directory printed for each semester.
Questions About Financial Aid?
- Can I afford to go to college?
A: An excellent question! The Selland College of Applied Technology is one of the seven colleges that make up Boise State University. As such, tuition fees are the same as any other college in the University.
Some programs in the Selland College of Applied Technology have additional lab, tool, certification or insurance fees. Every attempt is made to keep fees as low as possible to facilitate access for students. Click here for a estimated costs of your program per semester.
Selland College of Applied Technology programs also qualify for scholarships and federal financial aid. We encourage you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will find it at any local high school or college in your area. You can apply over the Internet at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
Please note that Selland College of Applied Technology students will be notified of their actual financial aid award package after they have been accepted into a program at the College. We would like your college experience to be intellectually stimulating and rewarding with as few outside stresses as possible. Therefore, we recommend early completion of the steps to admission and the FAFSA to be well prepared for your college experience.
