What Kind of Career Can You Expect?
In today’s world, professional farmers need to know how to manage both the production and financial sides of the business. This three-year course prepares you to manage day-to day farm business affairs as well as establish and meet long-term goals. The professional farm business manager may be employed by agri-business to oversee or facilitate food handling, processing or marketing.  With other skills, some farm business managers have become representatives for agriculture to the larger world of business.  Solid farm business management skills are the focus of this program.

What is the Outlook for Job Opportunities and Pay?
To succeed financially, today’s agriculturists must be prepared to meet and manage the broad challenges of big business. Financial management and thorough record-keeping are the key to success in any industry—farming is no exception.

With the skills this program provides, the earning potential for any professional farmer will increase significantly.

What Skills, Traits, or Prep Classes Would be Helpful?
– Basic math skills.
– Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
– Experience with computers and e-mail (but not a prerequisite).
– Own or soon plan to own an up-to-date computer.

What Will You Learn to Do?
– Process daily accounting transactions, journals, and ledgers
   and handle other entry-level accounting functions.
– Prepare financial statements.
– Perform payroll functions.
– Manage cash and accrual accounting.
– Handle accounting for sole proprietorships, partnerships,
   and corporations.
– Use business computer applications.
– Communicate professionally, both in person and in writing.
– Solve problems.
– Conduct an effective job search.
