Apply For Admission
1. Complete a Boise State University Application for Admission
Larry Selland College is one of 7 colleges at Boise State University. To enroll in our college, complete the Boise State Admissions application for degree seeking students online at:http://admissions.boisestate.edu/apply now
(Note: Select “Applied Tech” as the drop down menu choice in the appropriate part of the application. Use a credit / debit card to pay the $30 application fee.) You apply using the form in this packet. Mail it to us at the address below, with a check made out to Boise State for $30.
2. Take the Compass Assessment
We welcome adult learners at all skill levels. If you have not taken the SAT or ACT test recently you will need to take a Compass assessment. We use the results of this assessment to determine your current skill levels in various topics and place you in programs appropriate for your current level of knowledge.
You do not need to study for the Compass. It is not a test. You cannot fail and your scores will not keep you from becoming a student here.
Some programs do have minimum score requirements. If you need to brush up your skills you are not alone. We provide many students with free tutoring and other basic education programs that will give you the skills you need to enter a program and successfully complete it.
The Compass is offered in Boise and Nampa.
Learn more about the Compass Assessment.
(Note: If you have earned college credit in the past, you may not need to take the Compass assessment. Please contact us for more information.)
3. Talk With A Career Advisor
Our advisors can help you create a personalized education plan. You can meet with them before or after you apply for admission. They can help answer specific program questions, explain your Compass scores, assist with registration, help you plan your class schedule etc. Call 426-1431 to set up an appointment in Boise or Nampa.
4. Contact all High Schools, Colleges or GED Granting Institutions you have attended. Ask them to send us your official transcripts.
We must have transcripts sent to us from all schools you have attended in the past - before we can hold a spot for you in a program. Contact the schools and ask them to mail your transcripts to us at the following address:
Student Services / Records
Larry Selland College MS 2005
1910 University
Boise Idaho 83725
Note: If you did not complete high school, you are still welcome to attend here. Call to meet with an education advisor for more details. Other questions? Call us 426-1431.
5. Pay a “one time only” Larry Selland College $50 enrollment fee.
Once you have been admitted to the college we will ask you to pay this fee to complete your application process.
Apply For Financial Aid
1. Complete the Boise State University application for admission before you apply for financial aid.
We encourage everyone to file for financial aid – regardless of credit history, income levels or assets. Almost everyone who applies is eligible for some type of aid. We prefer you apply for admission and then apply for financial aid. This allows us time to get your file established on campus before your financial aid information is processed. Once your application is sent to us – you can apply for aid online or using a paper application.
2. Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) online at http://pin.ed.gov.
You need this number to complete the financial aid application online or to fill out a paper application. If you apply online it will arrive in 1-3 days by e-mail. If you apply by mail it should arrive in 10 days. Don’t lose your number. You will need it and use it at various times while you are in college.
3. While waiting for your PIN to arrive:
4. When you get your PIN, go online to www.fafsa.org to complete the online application for financial aid.
Follow the directions carefully. Errors cause delays. Call our financial aid office if you need help with this form at 426-1664. You can also e-mail questions to: faquest@boisestate.edu.
5. Use Boise State code 001616 on your FAFSA form in the appropriate box.
Your financial aid is processed by a national processing center. This code tells the national center to send your data to us to finalize your aid package.
Apply For Workforce Investment Act Funds
You may also qualify for additional financial assistance through local Department of Commerce and Labor (formerly known as the "Job Service Office" or "Unemployment Office"). All local offices have information on this program.
