Individuals can enroll in these classes. We can also bring courses onsite to local businesses at a very low or no charge.
ESL LITERACY AND BEGINNING:
Designed for students who have little or no ability to read or write in English. Course instruction will introduce students to the English alphabet, words, sight words, basic grammar structure, and eventually sentences. Students will be taught to answer simple yes/no and information questions, understand and respond to simple oral directions, understand basic vocabulary, recognize the value of currency, understand days, weeks, months; understand warning and emergency signs and use the telephone for emergencies.
ESL HIGH BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE LIFE SKILLS:
This course was designed for students who function in English in a limited way. It will expand on the student's knowledge of English grammar, conversation, vocabulary, and writing abilities beyond the basic survival level. Class topics will include a variety of life skills.
ESL HIGH BEGINNING/LOW INTERMEDIATE JOB SKILLS:
This course was developed for students who function in English in a limited way. Course instruction will include preparation for employment, applying for a job, following directions, understanding safety issues, basic computation skills, understanding paycheck information and employee benefits.
ESL HIGH INTERMEDIATE LIFE SKILLS: This course was designed for students who function independently in most familiar situations. Instruction for this course will include expansion on previously learned grammar structures. Students will learn more complicated life skill topics.
ESL HIGH INTERMEDIATE JOB SKILLS: This course was developed for students who have enough ability in the use of English to function independently. Instruction for this course will include: interpreting help wanted ads, identifying skills and education needed for jobs, organization of basic resume, interview behavior, company rules and policies, job descriptions, identifying unsafe working conditions, and understanding the job review/promotion process.
ESL CONVERSATION CLASS: This course was developed for the intermediate to advanced level students who are able to participate in face to face conversations on topics beyond basic survival needs. The course is designed around 26 half-hour video stories which show adults from various cultures facing real life challenges of adapting to life in the United States, used in conjunction with a variety of printed material.
